Animals

The CDC has special requirements for domestic animals coming into the country. Dogs and cats, for instance, will need rabies vaccinations and may require quarantining . There are also some animals that may not be imported as pets by individuals. To read more about the CDC requirements, visit the CDC website for FAQs on Animal Importation.

If you bring dogs into the country, another necessary form is the CDC vaccination and quarantine certification form. Be sure to fill in all details related to the shipment of the dogs, but do not check any of the checkboxes for the length of quarantine or age of the dogs. Customs will review the documentation and make that determination. Be advised that the CDC will follow up on the dogs to make sure you have vaccinated and quarantined them properly. Steep fines could be assessed if the dogs have been improperly quarantined.

For your Customs Broker to make an entry for dogs or other domestic animals, he will need:

  • a copy of the airway bill
  • a copy of the Bill of Sale that has both the seller's and buyer's address, the price paid, a good description of the dogs and the age of the animals
  • a copy of the CDC form signed by you, the importer.
  • a copy of the "Pet Passport" document which will accompany the dogs from overseas, or a copy of the Veterinarian Certificates from the exporting country. If this cannot be supplied ahead of time, clearance will be delayed until after the dogs are actually at the airport because Customs must verify that the dogs are exactly as represented. We know you don't want your dogs to be held at the airport while we get the "eyes" dotted and the "tees" crossed, so this may be one of the most critical steps to take before your dog gets on the plane. Have the seller make a copy of all the pages, and either email them to us at info@jeanduncan.com or or fax them to us at 001.404.767.0016.
